What's involved in the rapid growth of an IT company? Bas Blancke knows this all too well.
He worked for a major American automation company for almost 20 years. The experiences
he gained there are valuable in his work at Avit. Since late 2020, he has been working with us
as a Service Delivery Manager.
After his career with the American automation company, Bas worked as an independent contractor for about five years.
"Ultimately, I missed the camaraderie," he says. "And the feeling of building something together.
That's when I started looking around. Avit piqued my interest."
"My first job interview was really enjoyable. It took place in Emmeloord with our Commercial Director.
We talked for an hour and laughed a lot, but we didn't even discuss my CV. Afterward, I asked, 'Don't you want to
know about my work history?' 'That's not necessary,' he said, 'I know enough.'"
"At the American company, I saw the challenges a growing IT company faces. I can leverage that
experience well at Avit." Bas smiles, "I like to get involved where needed."
Since we're growing rapidly, not everything is in place yet. "If you have a good idea, you don't even need
to create a business case. If you think 'I want to tackle this, and I need resources for it,' you can have the
freedom to arrange it. I like that."
There's also a significant difference from his old employer. "They did a lot of slideware.
There was a lot of talk about new products and services, but they only existed on the PowerPoint slide.
In reality, it all had to still be brought to life. That's not the case at Avit. Here, it's more doing than talking. I like that mentality."
The move to Avit also brought a lot of new knowledge. "I've done a lot of different IT work,
but not much in the networking field. For example, when colleagues here talked about SD-WAN,
I had no idea what they were talking about. Of course, there are more people who come to Avit from different fields.
In that case, it's important to have the willingness to learn."
"You can't wait for all the information to come to you. It can be as simple as Googling, or having a chat with a colleague.
Avit is a European Cisco Gold partner, so there's an incredible amount of expertise in-house."
Bas works for various major clients. The biggest one is Asics. "We've rolled out a global network for them.
From locations in Australia and Japan to the US and here in the Netherlands. It's more flexible and cost-efficient than
what they had before. For us, it's a new solution that Asics is an early adopter of."
There are more Service Delivery Managers. "We speak regularly. During work, but also at parties and other events.
A lot happens at Avit. It's always approachable and always fun. This way, you get to know many colleagues in a different way.
It just works better when you get to know each other."
