Avit wins tender for the network renewal of the municipality of Súdwest-Fryslân

Avit has won the tender for the replacement of active network components of the municipality of Súdwest-Fryslân. The framework agreement has a term of five years, with an option for an extension of a maximum of two times twelve months.

About the municipality of Súdwest-Fryslân

The municipality of Súdwest-Fryslân is the largest municipality in the Netherlands in terms of surface area and the second largest municipality in Fryslân by population. The municipality consists of six cities and 83 villages, with more than 90,000 inhabitants. This dynamic region requires a robust and future-proof network to ensure service delivery to residents and businesses.

Reason for the Tender

The tender was necessary to establish a future-proof network and to ensure the continuity of all municipal tasks. A modern network is essential to be prepared for the new Cybersecurity Act (NIS2) and to enable the municipality to perform its services efficiently and securely.

Municipality’s Needs

The municipality aims to contract a supplier who can deliver high-quality network components at competitive prices. This supplier should proactively contribute to the choice of components that best meet the technical needs of the municipality, fit current equipment and protocols, and can move along with market developments.

Harry Zwiers, Manager Information Management and Automation at the municipality of Súdwest-Fryslân: "With Avit as a partner for the replacement of our network components, we are taking an important step towards a robust and future-proof ICT infrastructure. This collaboration guarantees the continuity of our services to residents and businesses."

Scope of the tender

The tender includes the renewal of the network at various locations, including both wired and wireless infrastructure, the connection of all locations via a private fiber optic ring, and the modernization of the data center. The required equipment includes among others: switches, routers and Wi-Fi controllers. The service includes manufacturer's warranty and technical advice.

Future-oriented benefits

In the tender, they asked for our expertise and we advised the municipality to invest in a future-proof network. This network will enable the municipality to increase efficiency through faster and more reliable network connections, improve security by being prepared for the new Cybersecurity Act (NIS2), and stimulate innovation by utilizing the latest technologies such as Software Defined Networking (SDN) and Software Defined Access (SDA).

SDN and SDA are crucial because they offer flexibility and scalability, which is essential for responding to future technological developments and security requirements. This renewal ensures that the municipality of Súdwest-Fryslân is ready for the future and can continue to serve its residents and businesses optimally.

Robert van Zanten, Director at Avit: "With this win, Avit takes an important step in strengthening our presence in the municipal and provincial market. We are proud to be able to provide the municipality of Súdwest-Fryslân, its employees and residents with high-quality network solutions over the next five years."
